Thisfilmwillre-examinetheaftermathoftheWartoaskiftoomuchstresshasbeenlaidonanoptimisticviewofvictoryinEuropewithcelebratoryimagesofVEdayandnewsreelcoverageoftheliberationofplaceslikeParis.Whilenarrativesofhopeandreconciliationareimportant,areparallelstoriesshowingthedarkersideofpeaceyettoreceivedueprominence?Liberationwasbitter,bloodyandvengeful,andtherewereprofoundandpervasivefearsthatthepeacecouldbelost.Throughrarearchiveanduniquepersonaltestimony,thisfilmrevealsthe‘poisonedpeace’of1945tothrowlightonapost-warEuropewherecivilisationteeteredonthebrinkofchaos,butthestoryofthetransitionfromwartopeaceformsthehingeonwhichmodernEuropeanhistoryturns.
